Here is a peek at Sadie today while visiting with Mommy at the hospital. We talked and sang together and read books. She really likes looking at the pictures. We also snuggled and it was so fun. She ate a little bit more from me today, but we will inevitabley get the G-tube before she comes home. That will allow us to feed her at home with little distress. She can still work on eating from a bottle, but have less risk of losing weight. We need her to reach 22 pounds so she could get her cleft palate fixed! She is such a little special angel baby and I love her so much!

Sadie Louise Schreiber

It's been so long since I've written and we have had quite some changes in the Schreiber household! We have a new family member and boy is she a keeper! Sadie Louise Schreiber was born July 2, 2010. She is such a little baby doll! She is a snuggler and loves her head rubbed. She also let's us know when she needs something! Dylan was happy to meet her as well. My c-section went well and we were overjoyed to bring this little girl into the world.

Once she was born we discovered that Sadie was born with Pierre Robin Sequence. This means she has a cleft palate and a recessed jaw. This causes her difficulty with eating and breathing. She has been in the NICU at Arrowhead hospital since birth. She will not be able to come home until she can eat all of her feedings successfully. We just started working back on her eating. Her cleft palate is located all the way in back of her palate, near where your uvula is located. She has a u-shaped cleft in the soft palate. She will later have surgery to repair this, but not until 22 pounds. Her jaw should continue to grow untils he is about 2 years old. We hope this successfuly grows so we can avoid the surgery for mandible extention. The nurses and hospital staff have been so caring a helpful with Sadie. It's really a waiting game for us right now as we try to help her learn to eat under her difficult circumstances. I will use this blog to hopfully keep friends and family updated on her progress. Prayers are always welcome! I will post some pictures of our journey thus far! Thanks!
